Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia's national carrier, was named the 'World's Best Regional Airline' and 'Best Regional Airline Asia' at the SkyTrax 2012 World Airline Awards at the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) in England last night.
The SkyTrax World Airline Awards is the airline industry's most comprehensive and prestigious measure of service quality and is based on survey results of 18 million international passengers from 100 different countries between July 2011 and June 2012. The survey compared 38 airline aspects including service, on-time performance, food, safety and convenience in which Garuda Indonesia scored ahead of over 200 airlines worldwide.
Garuda Indonesia President & CEO, Emirsyah Satar said that both "The World's Best Regional Airline" and "The Best Regional Airline in Asia" awards were the result of the hard work from all Garuda employees.
Commenting on the event, CEO SkyTrax, Edward Plaisted gave his sincere congratulations for Garuda Indonesia's achievement. "It is clear that the transformation program is well implemented in all aspects. These awards are the true recognition for product and service that Garuda Indonesia is delivering to its customers." Edward Plaisted added.
Both SkyTrax awards recognise the success of Garuda Indonesia's progress towards becoming one of Asia's most successful and profitable airlines. Recent landmarks include the revitalisation of its existing fleet, the introduction of new in-flight product and service concept called the Garuda Indonesia Experience that combines warm Indonesian hospitality with unique service offerings like visa-on-board facilities.
Bagus Y. Siregar, Vice President for Garuda Indonesia Australia/SWP commented: "We're very honoured to receive two of these prestigious awards which reflect our on-going efforts to deliver the highest standards for our Australian and international passengers. We've also been voted number eleven in the 'World's Best International Airline' category and came fourth in the 'World's Best Economy Class', which motivates us even further to improve our services on the ground and in the air."
The 'World's and Asia's Best Regional Airline' awards follow after a string of international accolades, including the four-star and 'World's Most Improved Airline' rating by SkyTrax in 2009/10 and 'Asia's leading service quality airline' award by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) in 2010. In January and February this year, Garuda Indonesia was also recognised as 'Best International Airline' by research company Roy Morgan.
This increasing recognition at international level encourages Garuda Indonesia to continue its 'Quantum Leap' program through which it aims to be five-star airline and operate 194 aircraft by 2015.
