Orthopaedically correct support means supporting the body in its natural position to relieve muscular tension.
The concept of orthopaedically correct support was first realised in the 1950s. Sealy in the US worked with Dr Addison, an orthopaedic surgeon and authority on the treatment of back pain.
The correct alignment of the skeletal system was critical in achieving proper relaxation of the muscles during sleep, leading to a better night's sleep. Sealy developed strict criteria to assist in providing orthopaedically correct support, based on the relative angles and alignment of the skeletal system of the body at rest. The support system was required to support the body correctly in any position, for any body type. It supported the body at the angles determined by orthopaedic surgeons. Simply, an 'intelligent' support system was required.
Sealy Product Testing
Great comfort and support have no value if the mattress loses its support or comfort characteristics after a short time. That's why Sealy invests a great deal of time and money into its Research and Development (R&D) facility. The role of Sealy's NATA accredited R&D department undertakes three important functions:

This underpins the product guarantee and is demonstrated by Sealy's exceptionally low product return rate.
3. Developing new products - Sealy's R&D facility is dedicated to ensuring that any innovations are sound and relevant before they are introduced to the market
